the uniqueness of cardinalfish is its one of the few species of fishes that carry its eggs in the parent's mouth until the eggs are hatched. and what more special to it is its the male that carry out this parenting duties.. carrying the eggs in its mouth, the male will open its mouth once in a while to keep eggs aerated. as the male can't eat anything during the few weeks it is carrying the eggs in the mouth, it is believed that the male eat up to 30% of its own eggs.
