rnThe inner city is linked to Oude Haven ('Old Harbor') and Groenendaal, the residential area behind it, by a footbridge. To encourage the use of this safe connection across traffic-filled Blaak, architect P. Blom was commissioned to design the bridge in spectacular fashion. Inspired by the Ponte Vecchio in Florence, Blom built his bridge. He opted for a type of dwelling he had previously realized in Helmond and combined it with a shopping arcade.rn
rnInteraction
rnThe cube house consists of a canted cube with one point in a concrete core that accommodates entrance and stairwell. The wooden cube is divided into three levels: 'street' house (kitchen and living room), 'sky' house (bedrooms), and 'green' house (meant as conservatory). Windows in the tilted walls offer a substantial view, which allows for a high degree of interaction between private (upper) and public (lower) levels.rn
rnThe Show-Cube rn
rnThe Show-Cube is a fully furnished museumhouse. The interior is especially designed and custom made to give the visitor an impression of how one can live in a cubehouse. Models, photopanels and PC-screens provide extra information about the complex.rn
