Fotografer.net bersama Offstone dan Clubsnap, dua portal komunitas fotografi Singapura menggelar pameran bertajuk "Crossing Bridges", 6-20 Oktober 2004. Pameran berlokasi di Photographer's Gallery, MITA Building, Hill Street, Singapore. Foto-foto yang dipamerkan adalah hasil hunting bersama dalam Central Java Photo Trip 2004 pada bulan Mei di Jogja dan Jawa Tengah.

Acara pembukaan pameran digelar pada hari Sabtu, 9 Oktober 2004 di Photographer's Gallery. Sayang sekali, acara pembukaan terbatas hanya bisa dihadiri para undangan. Kendati begitu, sejumlah rekan yang ikut FN Hunting Series Malaka dan extend ke Penang dan KL akan mampir di Singapura dan menyempatkan diri hadir ke acara pembukaan pameran.

Berikut ini dikutipkan pengumuman pameran yang sama, yang dimuat di Clubsnap dan Offstone.

“For the first time in the world, 36 photographers and enthusiasts representing three online photo forums [Fotografer.net, ClubSNAP and Offstone] from two different countries [Indonesia and Singapore] have come offline for a photo-hunting event,” states Eddie Ng, initiator and organizer of the event. “Not even the popular Photo.net or Pbase.com has done something similar.” Quoted Eddie Ng, one of the organiser of the event in May 04.

What is also unique is that the event was entirely grassroot driven and not aligned to any “official” cultural agencies from the two countries. In the womb of the web, bureaucracy was bridged. At Yogyakarta, friendships were made. Photo history, in this sense, mirrors Javanese history on this thin and fertile strip of land where different religions and cultures have mingled and learnt from one another.

The rest, as they say, is history. But a figment of this photo history is now coming to The Photographer’s Gallery (TPG), MITA Building, Singapore. From 6 to 20 October 2004, 26 photographers will showcase the “results” from the photo-hunting event in an exhibition titled “Crossing Bridges: A Visual Journey through Central Java by Singapore and Indonesia Photographic Communities”. Renowned architecture photographer Mr. Albert Lim, epSITE manager Mr. Tan Haur and our PHOTOi man Mr. John Cosgrove have helped out as curators and “judges” in selecting the images for the exhibition.

NIKON is one of the sponsors for the exhibition. The prestigious brand has always been keen to celebrate the “entrepreneurial” spirit of photographers. Realizing the poignancy of this historic event, NIKON Singapore has backed us up in typical fashion.

epSITE – EPSON Imaging Gallery – is sponsoring the printing of the exhibiting images on their top line plotters.

“This exhibition is line with epSITE’s philosophy of bringing the knowledge of digital workflow and high quality photo printing technology to the masses,” says Mr. Tan Haur. “I needed very little convincing to sponsor the exhibition when I saw the standard of the pictures.”

Last but not least, Indocafe and Beaver's Pub are the F&B sponsor for the opening reception and a strong enough reason to be at TPG on 9 October. The opening event will be strictly by invitation only.

“Untuk pertama kalinya di dunia, 36 fotografer dan peminat foto dari 3 forum fotografi online (Fotografer.net, Clubsnap dan Offstone) dari 2 negara [Indonesia and Singapore] telah bertemu secara offline dalam sebuah acara hunting," kata Eddie Ng, inisiator dan penyelenggara acara ini. “Bahkan Photo.net atau Pbase.com yang populer sekalipun belum pernah membuat hal serupa,” ujar Eddie Ng, salah satu penyelenggara acara di bulan Mei 2004.

Hal yang juga unik adalah acara tersebut dilaksanakan secara tak resmi tanpa berhubungan dengan kantor "resmi" pariwisata di kedua negara. Dengan kelebihan internet, birokrasi bisa dipermudah. Di Yogyakarta, persahabatan terbentuk. Sejarah fotografi yang tercatat, dalam hal ini, mencerminkan sejarah Jawa di tanah yang subur tersebut tempat berbagai agama dan beragam budaya berbaur dan saling belajar satu sama lain.

Sisanya, seperti yang banyak disebutkan, adalah sejarah. Tetapi salah satu bagian dari sejarah fotografi tersebut akan dipamerkan di The Photographer's Gallery (TPG), MITA Building, Singapore. Dari tanggal 6 hingga 20 Oktober 2004, 26 fotografer memamerkan "hasil" yang diperolah selama acara hunting bersama dalam sebuah pameran bertajuk "Crossing Bridges: A Visual Journey through Central Java by Singapore and Indonesia Photographic Communities". Fotografer arsitektur terkemuka Mr Albert Lim, manajer epSITE Mr Tan Haur dan pemilik Majalah PHOTOi Mr John Cosgrove membantu menjadi kurator yang memilih foto-foto yang akan dipamerkan.

Nikon adalah salah satu sponsor pameran ini. Merk yang prestisius ini memang selalu mau ikut serta memeriahkan semangat "kepeloporan" para fotografer. Menyadari bahwa acara bersejarah ini sangat baik, NIKON Singapore membantu kami seperti biasa.

“Pameran ini sejalan dengan filosofi epSITE untuk membawa pemahaman cara kerja digital dan teknologi cetak foto digital kualitas tinggi kepada orang banyak,” ujar Mr. Tan Haur. “Saya tak perlu ragu mensponsori pameran in begitu melihat kualitas foto-foto yang hendak ditampilkan.”

Akhir kata, Indocafe and Beaver's Pub adalah sponsor makanan dan minuman untuk acara pembukaan dan rasanya cukup alasan untuk hadir di TPG pada 9 Oktober. Acara pembukaan hanya khusus bagi para undangan saja.

Yes, the official opening is on 9 Oct 2004, 3pm at the Photographers' Gallery at MITA Building, Hill Street in Singapore. For FN members who are in Singapore at the time, you are more than welcome to join us in the opening ceremony. We're still trying to get a diplomat from the Indonesia Embassy in Singapore to be the Guest of Honour for the opening. Let's hope this happens. The Indonesian Professional Association is helping us with the invitation. Keep our fingers crossed..... After the exhibtion in Singapore, the exhibits will be sent over for an exhibtion in Indonesia.
