nMy greatest fear
nWould be to die forgotten
nTo be rotten and decaying
nAnd the worms ricocheting
nIn sheer glee
nFrom their discovery of me
nWhile up here neither delight
nNor fright at the thought of life without me
nWould the mourners afore them see
nAs they gaze ahead from the funeral
nWhich would be the last surreal
nMoment I'd exist
nAnd from it I'd vanish
nMy memory being extinguished

nI can hear my soul cry
nAs it flies
nFrom memory to past
nAnd in not one fleeting moment last
nIn one place but continue
nInto the vacuum within you
nAnd never finding a home
nOr a place to call its own
nBut always being denied
nAnd decried for its failure
nTo make a lasting impression
nIn any session of life
nAnd no emotion remaining
nNot even hatred or strife
nJust pure blankness
nAnd for all that I've done for others
nRemaining thankless

nTo prove my virtue
nI ask what must I do
nSo on my day of transcendence
nI will not rue
nMy lack of attendance
nTo the matters of others and
nI won't be forgotten and
nDropped from their thoughts
nWith no trace of remorse
nFor what was lost
nBy matter of course
nSo my future I can ensure
nTo keep an open door
nWith a line of clear sight
nFrom here to the horizon

nMy life needs not memorizing
nOr a scribe to be exact
nBut its legacy to stay intact
nLost not to senilities
nOr needless hostilities
nMaybe kept in a file
nFor easy access and
nTaken out once in a while
nAnd examined and praised
nOr derided with naysay
nBut even if it's truth I would live
nThrough the criticisms
nAnd that would be proof that
nEven though cynicisms
nAbounded within me
nI am still worthy
nTo leave my memory
