rnimportant that you really “see” yr model. You have to look closely at her strengths,
rnor areas to emphasize in your photographs, and her weak areas, or areas to deempha
rnsize. It takes time and practice to learn to do that effectively. You need to be able to
rnmake yr assessment without staring and making the woman uncomfortable.

rnThe first step is to ask yr model about her favorite areas of her body. It is important
rnto ask in a gentle way, especially if you don’t know her well. You may have to press her
rna bit if she is very modest. You can make suggestions. Be sure to use the proper names
rnof body parts and not slang. KEEP IT PROFESSIONAL.

rnNext ask her about her least favorite spots. These are often tummy, legs, thighs, bot-
rntom, and upper arms. When she tells you, it is important to take note. It is likely that
rnshe will be very critical of herself in those areas. You need to be extra careful and try to
rnmake the photos as flattering as possible. Finally, you need to learn how to feature
rnsome areas and deemphasize others. This will involve posing, clothing, propping,
rnlighting, and finally, retouching, if necessary, which will be covered in later lessons.
rnAs a photographer, you need to see beyond the obvious and look for the beauty that
rnyour trained eye can observe. With skill and experience, you will be able to show her
rnbeauty and sensuality that she was not aware of. That should always be our goal.
