Capturing/Creating Space...

There are two artistic forms that treat space in a special way, each with their own special way.
The first is Architecture. Architecture in its own special way is capturing space. Contrary to most people would have thought, Architecture is arguably capturing space by giving space a physical boundary, a place. A place was given to space so human who dwells in it can feel the presence of space. Architecture creates place.
The latter is Photography. Different from Architecture, Photography doesn’t capture space. Photography creates space.

A Photographic Space?
Since Einstein, Space has been known as having 4 dimensions (Length, Width, Depth, and Time). This kind of space doesn’t exist in Photography. Photography has created its own kind of space, a Photographic Space.
A photographic space doesn’t have 4 dimensions, instead it has another dimension. A “Meaning” dimension, a dimension so subjective it can only exist in one’s mind. This dimension can be seen, but can’t be touched. It can’t be heard, but you can listen to its voice. You can’t smell it, but you know its aroma. You can’t taste it, but you will be lingered by it.

Within its frame, and on a two-dimensional-flat-surface medium, photography has succeeded in creating a space that amazes us all.

A photograph of a lady in white sitting on the grass with her golden hair blowing in the wind will bring you to the green meadow under the blue sky with birds flying around and the wind whispering in your ear.
A photograph of a soldier taking a bullet on his chest will bring you the horror of war, and suddenly you can feel the bullets flying over your head, you can even feel the heat of fire and the coldness of death.

A photograph of the Alps with golden ray of the sun shining on its shoulder will remind you the vast and greatness of God’s Creation, and you suddenly realize that you are just a tiny fraction in this life.
A photograph of an eight-legged spider, with its eyes staring at you will remind you that it is not that small after all, and that it is as beautiful as any other God’s Creation

A photograph of a red Ferrari crossing the finish line will bring you to the roaring crowds cheering their champion, and you will hear the roaring sound of a magical man-made machine whooshing on your face.
A photograph of a Ballet Dancer hopping in the air will bring you the silence of the crowds, you can’t hear anything but the tapping sound of her feet, and you will feel the grace and the sophistication of human body.

A photograph of skinny child with his hand begging for food will bring hunger and pain to yourself, and you suddenly almost shed your tears.
A photograph of a person you care and love that is far away will bring you closer to him/her, and you will feel the warmth of love and care. (my god...i miss u honey!!)

All of these can only happen in a photographic space, and even on a 3R size paper we can feel its presence touching every sense of our existence.

Now the question is, do you know how to create them?
