Two photographers - one from Aceh and one from Bali - will be chosen to attend the VII Bali Workshop by sponsored invitation of John Stanmeyer. The purpose of this sponsorship is to offer two select Indonesian photojournalists the opportunity to learn proper journalism ethics and to expand their visual communication skills. The applying photojournalists should not be working for any foreign press and should come from the Aceh and Bali areas. This sponsored fellowship is being designed to help raise the level of photojournalism for the continued betterment of Indonesia's photojournalism profession. The photographers should have some command of the English language. The sponsorship includes equal and complete access to the workshop being taught by VII photographers John Stanmeyer and Gary Knight, as well as all food, drink and ground transport once arriving in Denpasar. Photographers must submit a digital folio no more then 10 low-resolution images to be eligible (see technical details below). The workshop runs from July 24 till July 30 and will be held at Stanmeyer's studio in Canggu, Bali. Details: The two selected photojournalists must cover the following expenses: * Transport to/from Bali (Unfortunately this will only effect the Acehenese photographer unless the Balinese photographer is presently living elsewhere in Indonesia). * Lodging for 7 nights in Bali at the Subak Sari, $25 USD each per photographer per night based upon double occupancy of shared room with other sponsored photographer (all participants to the workshop must stay in one location for organizational reasons and for getting to know the other photographers participating - no exceptions). Total "estimated" cost needing to be paid PER sponsored photographer: Transport: $200-$400 USD from Aceh, depending on airline and routing Lodging: $150 USD or its equivalent in Rupiah Miscellaneous Expenses: Food & drink not from hotel & studio are the responsibility of the photographer * Food, drinks, motorbike driver/fixer, WI-FI Internet access and complete participation with other photojournalists will all be provided free throughout the weeklong workshop as part of the sponsorship. Added Insight: * Selected photographers must arrive no later then July 24, 2005, in Bali. * This is a DIGITAL workshop. If you choose to use film, each photographer must cover her or his own costs of film and processing on a daily basis in Bali. We strongly suggest you use digital. * Photographers will need to bring their own digital cameras & lenses, laptops, external hard drives and flash cards for editing and storage of their photography. Each photographer will also need to have a digital editing software program (like iView, Photo Mechanic and Photoshop) and know how to use the software to edit his or her images daily. There are two Apple Mac's photographers can use in Stanmeyer's studio but there will be no lessons on how to use Mac, therefore, those needing to use the studio computers must be well knowledgeable of the Apple OS X operating system. * This is NOT a photo workshop on how to use cameras or to learn basic photography skills. This workshop is intended for a deep immersion into power and purpose of photojournalism only. We will not being teach or talking about f-stops or what camera to use!
